NoRedInk integrates with Canvas to provide the following features for teachers:
- Automatic class creation in NoRedInk
- Regular roster updates that reflect enrollment changes
- Automatic student enrollment in appropriate classes when students open their first assignment in Canvas
- Automatic grade passback from NoRedInk to your Canvas gradebook
With this integration, teachers and students can enjoy a seamless experience without manual roster management and without ever leaving Canvas. Check out the sections below to learn how to roster your classes and students with Canvas!
π The Canvas integration is currently available exclusively for Premium users. Learn more about NoRedInk Premium here!
Sync with Canvas
β NoRedInk must be added as an External Tool in your Canvas portal. This setup must be completed by your school's Canvas admin before you can begin rostering with Canvas.Β
To begin rostering your students with Canvas, you'll first need to create a NoRedInk assignment in Canvas for your students to open. NoRedInk classes will be automatically created for each section assigned to a NoRedInk assignment in Canvas. To begin creating a NoRedInk assignment from Canvas, you can follow these steps:
- In Canvas, select the + Assignment button while viewing your course to be taken to the assignment form.
- On the next page, select External tool as the Submission type.
- Select Find to locate and select NoRedInk.Β
- The first time you access NoRedInk through Canvas, you'll be asked to either sign up for a NoRedInk account or log into your existing NoRedInk account to connect to Canvas.
βYou can only sync your classes from one integration at a time! If you start syncing classes from a different integration, your Canvas classes will be automatically archived.
Log in to an Existing NoRedInk Account
If you are already logged in to your NoRedInk account, you will see a welcome screen in Canvas that will ask you to confirm that you would like to proceed with connecting the two accounts. Select Yes, use this accountΒ to finalize connecting the two accounts.
If you are not currently logged into your NoRedInk account, you'll be able to log in with either Google or Clever Single-Sign-On or an email or password.Β
Sign up for a NoRedInk Account
If you have never used NoRedInk before, you'll need to sign up for a teacher account. When you access NoRedInk through Canvas, select Sign up as an educator on the Welcome screen to begin creating your account. You can follow the steps in this article to finish creating your teacher account!
Activate Premium
If your NoRedInk account is associated with your Premium school, you should automatically have access to all Premium content when the school year begins!
If you receive a message that your account is not currently using Premium, you'll need to enter your school's Premium code. You can retrieve this code from your school or department admin, and then enter it in the field. After this, select Activate Premium to confirm.
Add Students to a Canvas-Synced Class
Once you've connected your NoRedInk and Canvas accounts, you'll need to create your first assignment in Canvas for your classes and students to appear in NoRedInk! Students are automatically rostered into their NoRedInk class when they first access a NoRedInk assignment through Canvas directly.Β Β
π‘ Since the classes are coming from Canvas, no class code or invite link will be generated and students cannot be manually added to the classes.
You can provide the following article to your students to help them join your class: Join a Canvas-Synced Class. Once students log in or sign up for NoRedInk and connect their accounts to Canvas, they'll be automatically enrolled in your class and they can begin working on their assignments!
After students have joined those Canvas-synced classes, they should automatically populate in NoRedInk. A Canvas icon will display next to the name of the class on the teacher dashboard and the Manage Classes page to indicate that it's syncing directly from Canvas.
π‘ If students are signing up for NoRedInk for the first time, they'll be prompted to select interests before they can begin their assignment. You can learn more about interests here!
π Once you've completed this initial rostering with Canvas, any additional students will need to be manually added and synced via Canvas. Check out this article to learn how to manage students in Canvas-synced classes!
