NoRedInk's Canvas integration enables you to create NoRedInk assignments directly within Canvas. This seamless connection uses your existing Canvas class rosters and automatically syncs grades back to your Canvas grade book, only if the assignments are made directly in Canvas. Before creating assignments, here's what you can access through the integration:
NoRedInk assignment types currently supported in Canvas:
- Practice
- Assessments (Diagnostics, Quizzes, and Passages Quizzes)
- Quick Writes
- Guided Essay and Short Response assignments
Additional functionality
- Building Units
- Using the Standards & Tests page
Now that you're familiar with the available assignment types, let's learn how to create NoRedInk assignments in Canvas!
Create an Assignment
β NoRedInk must be added as an External Tool in your Canvas portal. This setup must be completed by your school's Canvas admin before you can begin rostering with Canvas.Β
- In Canvas, select the + Assignment button while viewing your course to be taken to the assignment form.
- On the next page, select External tool as the Submission type.
- Select Find to locate and select NoRedInk.Β
- You'll be prompted to either sign up for a NoRedInk account or log into your existing NoRedInk account to begin creating an assignment.
- If you are already logged into your NoRedInk account, you'll be prompted to confirm that you'd like to connect to that account.Β
- On the next page, you'll be presented with three options: Continue a Unit, browse our Assignment Library, or use a link shared by another teacher to make a copy of that assignment.Β
Selecting Browse Library will direct you to the NoRedInk Assignment Library. Here you can build new assignments, preview assignments to pre-teach students, as well as create assignments aligned with state standards and tests. For more detailed guidance on assignment creation, check out these resources:
- Browse and create assignments from the Assignment Library
- Create standards-aligned assignments in NoRedInk
- Once you've finalized the assignment you're creating, you'll select Return to Canvas. This will close the NoRedInk window and return you to Canvas to finish editing the assignment and open it for students to begin working.
- From Canvas, you can finish adding assignment details, such as the name, description, start date, and more. You can also select which classes will be assigned the work.Β
- If you set the Until Date after the due date, this will toggle on the Late submissions allowed option in NoRedInk, and students will be able to work on the assignment past the due date.
π‘ Setting a number of Allowed AttemptsΒ in Canvas will have no effect on NoRedInk assignments. NoRedInk itself limits students' attempts and those limits are not registered within Canvas. Check out this article to learn how assignment submissions and grading work in NoRedInk!
- When you've finished editing the assignment, select Save to save the assignment for later or Save & Publish to send it to your classes. Your assignment will not be available to your students until you've saved the assignment in Canvas.
- After publishing the assignment, you must allow the results page to appear on the NoRedInk window. A pencil icon will spin on the assignment, and the assignment's results page will appear when it's finished.
βοΈ If your students receive the following error: "This assignment is not ready to be worked on yet. Please ask your teacher to access it on their end to ensure everything has been set up correctly," return to the assignment, select it, and allow the results page to load.Β
