Does Grading Assistant replace teacher grading?
NoRedInk's Grading Assistant can’t replicate the judgment of a skilled teacher who knows students as writers and as people. Instead, it aims to save you time grading “the basics,” freeing you up to provide more impactful support to your students.
- You decide what students will see! Grading Assistant scores and comments are only sent to students after you review them.
- You may want to provide additional or different feedback from what the Grading Assistant suggests—you know your students and their needs best!
- Feel free to use the Grading Assistant’s input as a starting point that you can adjust and add to as you see fit.
How accurate are the scores and feedback?
Grading Assistant is designed to provide accurate and useful feedback for supported writing rubrics. Throughout development, we rigorously tested outputs to ensure a high level of accuracy in scores and comments. While the Grading Assistant has undergone thorough testing, we expect it to make mistakes! We encourage you to review the Grading Assistant’s suggestions carefully before sharing with students.
What else should I know about Grading Assistant?
Grading Assistant is continually being refined, but it’s important to be aware of its current limitations:
- Feedback Timeframe: Occasionally, grading may take longer than a few minutes due to high demand. Please check back later if a student’s submission is in the process of being graded by the Grading Assistant.
- Plagiarism/AI Detection: The Grading Assistant focuses on quality feedback and scoring, and it doesn’t provide feedback on whether students submitted original work. However, you can leverage Originality Insights to gain insights on potential copy-and-paste behavior and student writing processes.
-
Text Formatting: The Grading Assistant cannot detect text formatting such as bold, italics, or underlines in student submissions. If your rubric or prompt includes formatting-based requirements, you will need to evaluate those criteria manually.
