Now that you've assigned a Peer Review, let's take a look at what students experience while completing the assignment.
Step One: Submit Writing
When starting a Peer Review assignment, the students will be presented with the steps they'll take from start to finish.
For Step 1, students will paste their existing essay draft into the assignment. This could be writing that students transcribe from paper or a copy-and-paste from a Guided Draft, Google Doc, or other source. Students can use the text editor on the right to edit the format.
💡 Since the rating step works best when students begin at the same time, we recommend students write their drafts in advance so that it's ready to copy and paste into Step 1.
After adding their writing, students will then be instructed to highlight key parts of their work based on the essay component chosen when the assignment was created. When they've finished with their initial draft, students will select Submit and proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Rate Peers
In Step 2, students will be matched up with peers to rate and receive anonymous feedback using the criteria selected. NoRedInk guides students through the feedback process by providing tips on writing meaningful feedback.
If you've required students to master topics in order to rate, students will be prompted to do this before unlocking the rating criteria. When students answer "No" to any of the presented questions, they will be asked to choose their reasoning behind the rating.
Once they've finished providing feedback on the first draft, they'll submit their feedback and move on to the next student's work. After they've gotten through all of their peers' work, they'll proceed to the third and final step!
💡 If any students are stuck in the rating stage or there are no more students left to rate, you can use the Skip feature on the Results page to move them forward to the revising stage or leave some feedback before skipping them ahead by selecting "View" and adding a comment.
Step 3: Revise
In Step 3, students will review the feedback left by their peers and revise their own writing. The first thing students will do is rate their writing based on the rating criteria. As students rate themselves, they'll compare their ratings with the ratings and feedback left by their peers. Students can edit their self-rating as they go through the questions.
Students will then review their classmates' comments before setting revision goals. Students can star the feedback that they found most helpful or flag any inappropriate comments for their teacher.
Students will then be instructed to set revision goals for themselves based on their classmates' feedback in the previous section. After students set their revision goals, the final step is for students to revise and submit their writing.
Reviewing their submitted work
To view the writing they've submitted, students can select Past Work at the top of their page. By selecting View Writing next to the Peer Review, students will be able to see their submitted work, any comments their teacher left, and their grades.
