If you're experiencing writer's block while working on an assignment in NoRedInk, try one of these strategies!
- Start with an outline. Instead of full sentences, jot down quick notes or ideas to structure later. Ask your teacher about pre-writing resources that you can use to guide your writing!
- If you are using a guided essay, refer to the tips and tricks to get ideas to begin writing. Try using a sentence starter to get an idea started.
- Give yourself permission to write something messy! It is easier to revise than to create perfectly from the start.
- If you are stuck on a particular part of the essay, such as the introduction, try to write out your thesis statement so you have your guiding statement and then move on to the body paragraph or conclusion.
- Read the prompt again to see if it sparks any new ideas.
- Read through what you’ve written to see if it prompts any ideas.
- Look for thoughts you can expand on or ideas you haven’t discussed yet.
- As you read what you’ve written, try asking yourself the following questions, and use your answers to keep writing!
- Why?
- How?
- So what?
- Now what?
- What does this look like, sound like, or feel like?
