If you’ve never used Peer Reviews before, we have a few suggestions:
- Use Peer Reviews to help students build strong essay components: When you create a peer review, you’ll select a unit for the assignment that corresponds to a specific component of an essay such as a thesis statement or body paragraph. We don’t currently support full essay peer review activities, but our units can support students in building all the pieces of a strong essay.
- Ask students to write drafts in advance: We suggest teachers ask students to write before starting the Peer Review assignment, so students can copy and paste their drafts for the first step (Submit Writing). It’s best if students submit their writing concurrently so that they can start the "Rate Peers" step at the same time and maintain a similar pace.
- Prepare students by reviewing relevant topics beforehand: To ensure students are ready to rate their peers on the rubric criteria you’ve chosen, teachers should do some pre-teaching before starting the Peer Review. On NoRedInk, you can review the relevant lessons or interactive tutorials on the Assignment Library; you can also create practice assignments with related writing topics.
These are just suggestions to get you started, but we would love to learn more about your own experience using Peer Reviews in your classroom and learn more about how we might improve it to better meet your needs.
