In NoRedInk, students can complete practice exercises either on their own or if a teacher has assigned the topics to them. In this article, you'll learn the difference between independent work and assigned work!
Independent work
Students can complete practice exercises without their teacher having to assign topics to them. This is called independent work. Students can select Learn at the top of their dashboard to begin practicing independently. You can learn more about how students can practice topics on their own in this article!
When students complete independent practice, this mastery is captured on the Student Data page. Teachers can view student data from their independent practice by navigating to the Mastery tab.
Assigned work
When a teacher assigns a Practice assignment, students will access their assigned work by selecting the play button next to the assignment on their student dashboard.
When a teacher assigns topics that a student has already mastered independently, that student will automatically receive a brief Refresher Quiz to determine how much of their previous independent work can be credited to the new assignment.
If a student selects Learn at the top of their dashboard and tries to practice a topic that is currently assigned, they'll be presented with a message prompting them to begin their assignment instead.
💡 It may help if the teacher coaches the student to select Begin class assignment instead of selecting I want to practice on my own.
