On NoRedInk, students can complete exercises on their own, separate from any work their teacher has assigned. This is what we call independent work, as compared to assigned work. To complete independent work, students can select the "Learn" link at the top of their page. To complete assigned work, students should click on the assignment's "Play" button on their homescreens.
Independent Work | Assigned Work | |
To start working, students should:
|
Visit the "Learn" page | Click the "Play" button on the assignment |
To view data, teachers can visit:
|
The "Mastery" tab of the Data page. This records students' mastery on all independent and assigned work. | The "Gradebook" tab of the Data page. This records students' scores on assignments. |
If a teacher assigns topics that a student has already mastered independently, that student will automatically receive a brief Refresher Quiz to determine how much of her previous independent work can be credited to the new assignment.
Note that if a student clicks "Learn" at the top of the screen and tries to practice a topic already assigned to him or her, he or she will see the following screen. In this case, it may help if the teacher coaches the student to click the "Begin class assignment" button instead of clicking the text "I want to practice on my own."
