Now that you understand how Planning Diagnostics can help you gather broad-stroke data about your students' strengths and weaknesses, let's learn how to create and assign one!
💡 We recommend assigning a Planning Diagnostic at the beginning of every school year or semester to get a general sense of your students' strengths and weaknesses.
To create a Planning Diagnostic, follow these steps:
- Head to our Assignment Library by selecting Browse & Assign at the top of your dashboard.
- Under Assignment Types, select Assessment.
- Select Planning Diagnostic.
- On the next page, you can choose from the following options:
- Browse our collection of pre-made diagnostics aligned to state standards or national tests.
- Create your own by selecting your chosen topics.
- If you choose to create your own, you can select the check box next to the topics that you'd like to assess. You can filter topics by recommended grade level to help you search!
You can see how many skills you've included and can adjust the number of questions for each skill set at the bottom of the page.
💡 We recommend choosing between 4-6 skills for your diagnostic.
- On the final page, you'll be able to select which class you want to receive the assignment, set a start and due date, and create a name for the assignment.
You can assign to the whole class by checking the box next to your class name, or select individual student names from the class list by expanding the Choose students drop-down to view student names.
You can also adjust the number of questions per pathway if the diagnostic contains multiple pathways. Keep in mind that adjusting the number of questions will impact the estimated time the assignment will take for students to complete.
- When you're finished, select Assign.
Once you create an assignment, you will be able to add new students who join your class to existing assignments, but won't be able to unselect students that have already been assigned.
