Each summer, classes are automatically archived to get your account ready for the new school year. We also reset student mastery levels before each school year so that students and teachers can begin with a clean slate.
We typically archive classes and reset mastery on the last Saturday of July each year, but we will always announce the exact date in this article, in an email announcement, and on your NoRedInk dashboard.
Summer 2026 schedule
Dates for automatic class archiving
- All NoRedInk classes will be automatically archived at the end of the day on July 25, 2026.
- Classes created after June 13, 2026, will not be automatically archived on July 25th. This is to accommodate those teaching over the summer or getting a head start for the new school year.
Dates for resetting student mastery
- Student mastery scores will also reset to 0 on July 25, 2026.
- This will not affect students' scores on assignments. All of the grades shown on the Student Data page will remain as long as the student remains enrolled in the active class.

How do I opt out of automatically archiving my classes?
To opt out of automatic archiving for all of your classes, refer to the alert on your NoRedInk homepage. The alert will show your automatic archive date, and your classes will be labeled with the automatic archive date as a reminder.
To opt out of automatically archiving a select number of classes, you can follow these steps:
- Navigate to your Manage Classes page at the top of your dashboard.
- Select the class you'd like to keep throughout the summer, then uncheck the box for automatic archiving.
💡 If you forget to opt out of the automatic archival, you can always restore archived classes at any time!
What happens to assignment scores and writing at the end of the school year?
Mastery reset does not affect writing submissions or assignment scores. However, before archiving classes or removing students, be sure to save assignment scores you or your students want to keep, as the data will not follow students into their new classes.
Here are some tips for saving writing and gradebook data:
- Students can go to their Writing Portfolio to view their writing submissions and print directly from their browser. Their writing submissions will stay with them year after year.
- Alternatively, they can use the Copy essay button to copy and paste the writing into another document.
- Teachers can also view their students' writing year over year through their Writing Portfolios.
Teachers can download the Grades tab of the Student Data page to save a copy of students' scores. - You can also print or download a copy of individual student reports.
How can teachers and students review mastery data from the previous year?
Even though the mastery data is reset for the new year, teachers and students can still access and review mastery data from the previous school year! You can check out the following resources to learn how:
