NoRedInk Self Reviews support students with scaffolding, exemplars, and tips as they revise an essay they've already drafted. Self Reviews emphasize the importance of revision in the writing process.
- As students engage in self-directed revision, it frees up your time to provide more individualized instruction where needed.
NoRedInk automatically saves progress as students write their Self Reviews. Students will be able to see the last time their work was saved. They also have the option to force save the writing before exiting. As long the assignment is not past due or allows late work, they will continue to have access to the assignment on their Home page.
Before students begin a Self Review, we recommend that students complete a first draft of their essay. To support your students in their first draft, consider assigning a NoRedInk Guided Draft.
To assign a Self Review, follow these steps:
- Head to our Assignment Library by selecting "Browse & Assign" and select the Writing activities.

- On the next screen, press "View more writing activities" and then choose "Create your own" for Self Review.

- Next, add a prompt and select the essay genre you want to assign. The grading rubric will adjust based on the essay genre you select. When you're finished, press "Continue."

- On the final page, you'll be able to choose the following:
- Which class(es) you want to receive the assignment
- Set a start and due date
- Create a name for the assignment
Expand the drop-down "Choose Students" to view student names. You can either assign to the whole class by checking the box next to your class name, or select individual student names from the class list.

- When you're finished, select "Assign."
Once you create an assignment, you will be able to add new students that join your class to existing assignments but won't be able to unselect students that have already been assigned.
