Now that you understand how Peer Reviews can help students learn key feedback skills and target revision of essay components, you’re ready to create one! Below, you’ll learn how to set up a Peer Review.
To assign a Peer Review, follow these steps:
- Head to our Assignment Library by selecting Browse & Assign at the top of your screen.
- Under Assignment Types, select Writing.
- On the next screen, press View more writing activities and then choose Create your own for Peer Review.
- Next, add a prompt and select the essay component you want to assign.
- The grading rubric that appears will adjust based on the essay component you select, and you'll be able to specify the criteria you'd like students to focus on when rating their peers.
💡 NoRedInk Premium users can choose to require mastery in the Practice topics associated with each criterion, enabling students to provide more robust and thoughtful feedback. You can learn more about requiring mastery in Peer Reviews here!
- When you're finished, select Continue.
- On the final page, you'll be able to select which class you want to receive the assignment, set a start and due date, and add a name for the assignment.
You can assign to the whole class by checking the box next to your class name, or assign to individual students by expanding the Choose Students drop-down menu and selecting specific names.
The Peer Review assignment does not begin until you select the Start button that appears next to the assignment on your My Assignments page.
On the next screen, you'll set your due date and time for the assignment and specify the number of required ratings a student needs to give others. The current default is 5 students. You'll also see the rating and grading criteria selected for the assignment at the bottom of the page.
- Select Start peer review to make the assignment open for students to start working on.
Once you create an assignment, you will be able to add new students who join your class to existing assignments, but you won't be able to unselect students who have already been assigned.
