Benchmarking is a technique used to periodically evaluate student proficiency in a specific area of study. Using this method, you can identify individual student strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles.
Armed with this knowledge, you can iterate on the best guidance, practice, and teaching styles to accommodate the student's needs.
Admins have the capability to rename the term "Benchmark." Your school-assigned diagnostic may be called a different name.
Assigning a Benchmark
When your admin has created a Benchmark, you'll see an "Assign your Benchmarks" banner at the top of your Dashboard, like the image below or on the first page of your Assignment Library.

- Select "Assign now."
- On the next page, you'll see the following information:
- The name of the Benchmark
- The estimated time it should take students to complete
- The grade level
- The due date

- Select the blue arrow to continue.
- You can also select the eye icon to preview the assignment in the Student View.
- On the final page, you'll select which classes and students will receive the Benchmark, the start/due date, and the due time.
- Select "Assign."
If you are unable to view the banner, please ensure that you have grade levels assigned to your classes. You can do so on your Manage Classes page.
Viewing Results
Benchmarks are scored like our Unit Diagnostics! Students will be scored on the number of correct answers out of total questions answered.
To view the results of the Benchmark, you can select the graph icon next to the assignment on your Assignments page.

- You can also select the assignment's name from the Student Data "Grades" tab to view the results.

In the "Class Performance" tab of the Benchmark results, you'll see your students grouped in proficiency bands according to their performance on each topic.
- Select a student's name to view their individual performance on the topics tested. If a student has not completed the diagnostic, it will be noted.
In the "Item Analysis" tab, you'll be able to review students' answers for each question in the diagnostic. You can select the icons to see more details.
