Tips for Implementing Worksheets
While we believe that NoRedInk’s instant feedback and adaptive practice provide the best learning experience for students, these worksheets provide a meaningful equivalent experience for students who do not have reliable internet or device access while learning at home.
Here are some suggestions for leveraging these worksheets:
- Provide the worksheets for students who do not have internet access alongside online practice for those who do. The worksheets were designed to align with Practice topics available on NoRedInk (see which pathways they align with in the list of worksheets above). Therefore, you can create Practice assignments on NoRedInk and give these worksheets to those who need them.
- Assign 1-2 worksheets a week to give students consistent skill practice. Each worksheet includes a lesson, practice questions, and a writing or revising task that asks students to apply the skill, so students can engage deeply with one skill at a time. To encourage transfer, try including the previous week’s skills in rubrics or instructions you give students for their writing assignments.
- Provide your students with answer keys, or grade worksheets yourself! Help students solidify their understanding and work through misconceptions using the answer keys we provide. You could send answer keys home after students complete the worksheets to help them understand what they got wrong, or you can score the worksheets yourself and give students feedback on their writing tasks.
- Remember that skill practice is just one piece of the larger puzzle! For students without reliable internet or device access, reading and building writing fluency are two of the most powerful ways students can improve their writing. If you’re looking for more offline writing practice for students, you can select a Quick Write or essay (Guided Draft) prompt from our library and share it with students on paper. You can also browse our collection of text-based writing assignments which include printable pdfs.
