Now that your students have submitted their Quick Writes, it's time to view and grade their submissions! Let's take a look at how you can grade your students' Quick Writes.
View and Grade Quick Writes
To view and grade your students’ submissions on a Quick Write, you can follow these steps:
- Navigate to the "My Assignments" page.
- Next to the Quick Write, select the "View Writing" icon.
You can select a student's name to see their current writing progress, but you can only comment or grade writing that has been submitted.
- Select "Grade" next to a draft under Ready for Grading.
- Once you're on the student's submission, you can use the comment box on the side to leave general feedback or comment on specific rubric criteria.
If the Quick Write assigned had a source attached for students to reference, you will also be able to view any annotations, highlights, and comments that students left while they were working!
- Select the Prompts and Sources tab next to Submission to view their annotations.
Now that you can see your students' Quick Writes and their annotations, let's learn about your grading experience based on the grading method you chose!
Grading Options
While creating a Quick Write, you are required to choose a grading option. This selection determines your grading experience once students submit their writing. There are 3 grading options available:
- Automatic: Word Count
- Manual: 0 - 100% Grade
- Manual: Rubric-based Grade
For all grading options, you can always leave the assignment ungraded if the only feedback you want to provide is through comments!
Automatic: Word Count
Quick Writes set to automatically grade by word count will be scored instantly once students submit their work. This grade reflects how many words a student writes compared to the assignment's minimum word count.
Students' grades match how close they get to the word count goal. For example, 75 words written out of a 150-word minimum earns a 50% grade. If a minimum word count was not set, all students will receive 100% when they submit their writing.
To adjust the grade of a automatically graded Quick Write, select the pencil icon next to the grade and type in the appropriate grade.
Manual: 0 - 100% Grade
If you chose to score a Quick Write manually using a percentage score, you can assign a grade between 0-100% once a student submits their writing.
Manual: Rubric-based Grade
If you manually created a rubric when you set up your Quick Write assignment, you will be able to score student work on that rubric once it is submitted.
Once you're done with grading, you can select Post grades and comments and then Return to Student to share the final grade and results with the student. This will close the assignment for the student and they will be unable to continue working on their Quick Write.
