What is remediation?
At the end of a Unit Diagnostic or Quiz, students receive their scores and are prompted to go through remediation to correct any questions they answered incorrectly. This remediation step exists as a safeguard to ensure that students don't walk away from the assignment with any misconceptions.
Teachers can rest assured that our engine has already recorded the student's score on his or her first attempt. A student's score on an assignment does not change based on remediation.
Remediation is not required for the Unit Diagnostic or regular Quizzes/Growth Quizzes to be considered complete.
Note: Passage-based quizzes also have a remediation exercise, but students will need to finish it in order to complete the assignment.
How do students access remediation?
When a student completes a Unit Diagnostic or Quiz, they are shown the message below. The student can click "Okay, I'm ready!" to start remediation. The student in the example will see the two questions they answered incorrectly:
If students have exited their assignment, they can still complete remediation by clicking "View Summary" from their Past Work page:
If students answer a question incorrectly during remediation, they'll receive a hint and the option to try a similar problem. If they are still having trouble, they'll be able to skip to the next question by clicking "I'm stuck".
How can I see and interpret students' performance on remediation?
To see students' answers on the remediation portion of the assignment, follow these steps:
- Click Assignments tab in the top navigation menu
- Click the Results (graph) icon next to assignment name
- Click "Item Analysis."
In the "Item Analysis" section of the assignment, teachers can see if students ultimately went back and worked to correct their misconceptions on missed questions.
For example, after finishing her diagnostic, Angela went back and looked at what she got wrong. She was able to correct her previously missed questions on her second and fourth tries, indicated by the numbers in yellow.
If you click on Angela's name to see her responses, you can see what she entered for each attempt. Note Questions 1 and 2 below show multiple attempts, with the final attempt correct.
