Overview

This article provides information about how to use the Grades tab of your Student Data page. This is where you'll find students' scores across all the assignments you've created. Keep reading to learn about some key features of the gradebook.

Gradebook features

Click the arrows below to view the different features and configurations available in your NoRedInk gradebook.

Easily switch your gradebook's orientation

By clicking the button shown below, you can toggle between seeing your students' names down the left-hand side of your gradebook and seeing them listed across the top.

Sort assignments by date

By default you'll see assignments created for that class, but for a leaner gradebook you might choose to see only this week's or this month's assignments. You can can also pick a custom date range.

Download data

Using the drop-down featured below, you can download your gradebook to Excel or to a CSV. You can then upload it to different programs or analyze scores outside of NoRedInk.

Display scores as percentages or points

By default, your gradebook displays scores as percentages, but you can adjust this by using the "Settings" dropdown.

View late submissions at a glance

If an assignment was worked on after the due date, a clock icon will appear next to the student's score icon. You can hover over the icon to view more details.

Links to access student reports or assignment results

Click a student's name to view an individual report of the student's past Assignments. The individual student report comes in handy when you want to hone in on just one particular student's results. You might use it in IEP conversations or during a parent teacher conference.
Click an assignment's title to get to your assignment's Results page, where you can view a detailed breakdown of your class's performance. You can then take a much deeper dive into the material assigned to see exactly how your students performed on specific topics and questions.

Access data for students that were dropped from the class

If you've dropped or moved students from one class to another, you can also view their grades by toggling "Show dropped students" within the settings. These students can also be included in a gradebook export.

The class average will update to include the grades of the dropped students when this feature is on.

Common Questions

What do the gradebook symbols represent?

This symbol means that the student was not assigned the work.

A light grey circle generally means that a student hasn't started the assignment yet.

Scores between 0-69 show up as dark grey

Scores between 70-79 show up as light green.

Scores between 80-89 show up as dark green.

Scores between 90-100 show up as neon green (when viewing by "points", you'll see a checkmark for completed Diagnostics)

When viewing your gradebook by "points" instead of "percentages", you'll see an "X" for incomplete Planning Diagnostics.

A clock symbol means that an assignment was turned in late, or has never been turned in, but the student has worked on the assignment after the due date. Hover over the icon to see more details.

How can scores help me understand a student's assignment progress?

Generally, the place to find detailed results for a specific assignment is in the specific assignment's Results page. However, the gradebook can provide some helpful details at a glance!

For Assessments: Scores will only appear once students complete the assignment. The scores that are displayed in the gradebook for assessments are final, unless reset by the teacher. To track students' progress during these assignments, it's best to use the assignment's Results page.

Note: Planning Diagnostics are graded based on completion, so students will get 100% when they complete it.

For Practice: Scores represent students' ongoing progress in the assignment. Practice assignments are graded based on completion. If a student appears with 100%, this means the practice is complete. If a practice appears with 50%, this means the student is only halfway through the assignment. Click here to learn more about tracking Practice results.

Note: Once the due date has passed, if a practice assignment has not been started, it will be given a grade of 0. This 0 will be averaged into the students' overall grade. This is overwritten if the work is completed after the due date if late work is allowed in the assignment.

For Writing: A grade will only appear once you've graded the student's writing. Once the due date has passed, if a writing assignment is not accepting late work it will be given a grade of 0.
