How to assign students to new assignments
As long as new students have already joined your class, you will see their names listed when you go to create a new assignment.
Expand the drop-down “Choose Students” to view student names. You can either assign to the whole class by checking the box next to your class name, or select individual student names from the class list.
How to assign students to existing assignments
When a student joins your class late, you’ll be emailed and you’ll see a banner notification appear reminding you to check on any existing/past due assignments that the student(s) may need to be added to.
Note: You'll only get these notifications if your class has assignments that are past due.
New students will be automatically assigned to assignments that are not past due and that have been assigned to the entire class. However, students will need to be manually added in the following situations...
- The assignment you want them to complete is already past due.
- The assignment you want them to complete was not originally assigned to the whole class.
Manually add new students to assignments
1. From your Assignments Page, click on the pencil icon to edit an assignment's settings.
Note: When adding students to a writing assignment, you'll first need to click "Continue" at the bottom of the assignment form to move from the prompt step to the class list .
2. For Quick Write or Guided Draft assignments, click the "Continue" button that appears on the next screen to proceed with assigning new students. If necessary, you can also make changes to your writing prompt or rubric from this page.
3. On the next screen, you'll see that new students that have not yet been assigned will be highlighted. Click the checkbox next to the student's name to assign it to them. If you don’t see your student’s name listed, double check that you’ve added them to the correct class.
3. If the assignment is past due, make sure that the checkbox for "Allow late submissions is checked" so that the new student is able to access the late assignment.
